A disagreement between siblings over a clogged toilet escalated into a physical altercation, culminating in an individual being arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and the Department of Children and Families initiating an investigation.
On December 29, the Margate Police Department responded to a residence in response to 911 calls indicating a victim had been assaulted and threatened with scissors.
According to records, the incident was ignited when a woman, later identified as Vanisa Franky, 30, of Margate, and the victim, both residents at the location, began arguing about the responsibility for damages caused by a clogged toilet.
Officers noted in the report that witnesses and the victim claim tensions escalated when the victim referred to Franky as “broke,” triggering an all-out fight in the kitchen area.
The victim told officers Franky began the assault by hurling a black shoe at her, striking her on the right shoulder, which quickly escalated to the siblings exchanging blows. The skirmish eventually moved towards the bathroom, where Franky allegedly bit the victim’s middle finger on her right hand.
As the victim managed to separate from Franky, she sought safety in her bedroom but heard her threaten that she would soon hurt her son.
The victim quickly exited the bedroom and witnessed Franky brandishing a pair of scissors, prompting multiple people in the home to fear for their lives, leading to the 911 call.
Law enforcement was notified, and upon arrival, they observed the victim’s disheveled appearance, with her dress torn as a result of the violent struggle. Franky was also found to have suffered an injury to her lower lip during the altercation.
A witness interviewed by officers corroborated the victim’s account, adding that she saw Franky advancing toward the victim with the scissors. Fortunately, the children of both parties, who were present during the incident, remained unharmed.
In response to the severity of the situation, the Department of Children and Families was contacted to assess the situation.
Franky was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
