The Monarch softball team picked up a big win Monday night to move a game closer to .500 after their 1-0 win over South Plantation High School.
Isabella Castelli pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 16, and allowed only two hits.
“All my pitches were working, but I used my curveball for the majority of the game,” said Castelli. “I threw them on the corner of the plate and off of it, which is why the girls were swinging and missing.”
Sarah Phillips drove in the only run after recording a pair of hits. Ciera Taylor scored the lone run and had one of the team’s three hits. Despite being a young team, Head Coach Kenny Forbes says his team is tough to beat when they pitch like they did today.
“The rest of the season, we will continue to gel together, learning to play for each other to do what’s best for the team to get the win in those tight games,” said Coach Forbes. “I’m very happy where we are at now, and by the end of the year, as always, I know we will be playing our best.”
The Knights are now 4-5 this year after beating West Boca Raton, Coral Springs Charter, and Cardinal Gibbons High School after winning 11 of 26 games last year.
Next, Monarch will play Fort Lauderdale High School in their final game before spring break on Tuesday, February 15 at 4:30 p.m. Fort Lauderdale is already 5-1 this season, with their lone loss coming against Cooper City High School on February 24.
