After receiving interest from numerous Division One schools, Monarch High School’s receiver Walter Parrish is set to play college football at Florida Atlantic University.

After seeing his uncle, Jonny Gray, play collegiately at Northern Iowa, Parish is set to join his cousin, Arthur Jenkins III, with the Owls. Parrish still has one year left on the Monarch varsity football team and says he has waited a long time for this moment.

“It was a blessing to commit,” said Parrish. “I’ve been dreaming and working hard to get where I am. FAU feels like home, and the coaches not only help you, but they teach you on and off the field.”

While Parrish wasn’t the biggest or fastest kid, he always was extremely productive on the football field. He started off as a quarterback and cornerback for the Pompano Eagles and also has played for the Pompano Tigers, Chiefs, and Steelers.

He has been on the varsity team since he was a freshman and had an incredible junior season. Parrish caught 20 passes for 335 yards and scored seven touchdowns helping the Knights win five games in 2021.

Parrish also has an extremely great relationship with coaches Calvin Davis and Russ Swain.

“They perfected my craft and really built me into what I am to this day,” Parrish added. “Also, just seeing my mom smile while I am on the field makes me feel like I am doing everything I need to do in life.”

After his senior season this year, Parrish is set to play for one of the top teams in Conference USA. The Owls went 5-7 last year and have won 21 games over their past three seasons.
