It hasn’t always been easy, but the Monarch High School girls and boys soccer teams have played well lately.
Girls Soccer Team
The girls soccer team had to wait until their eighth game, but they finally picked up their first win of the season on Thursday against Blanche Ely High School.
Not only did they record their first win, but the Knights scored three goals after being held scoreless up until this game.
Monarch is coming off a season where they won four games and still have two more before the holiday break. They will first play J.P. Taravella on Monday, Dec 19, before playing Pembroke Pines Charter the following night. Both those teams have a combined record of 10-3-1.
Boys Soccer Team
The boys soccer team started the season on fire but had only one win in December. That victory was against Pompano Beach High School, and despite a loss and two ties, they have a record of 3-2-3 this year. Their wins came against Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Cooper City, and Pompano Beach. They also earned ties against Coral Glades and Everglades.
However, they are in for a pair of challenging games this week, facing Deerfield Beach and American Heritage High School. Between those two teams, they have a combined record of 14-1-1.
“Even though we haven’t been playing our best, we are as good as anyone, and as long as we play our game, we can beat anyone,” said Head Coach Eric Swickle. “We have been mixing up lineups, and I have made it clear to the team that no spot is guaranteed, and everyone has to earn their minutes.”
Daniel Noguera and Santiago Luna lead the team with four goals. Pedro Bernardino has scored twice, while Albert Deoliveira, Atilla Kovacs, and Joseph Magallanes have one. Defensively, the Knights have allowed only three goals in their wins this year.
Monarch is I’ll also be on the road for their next two matchups, with the Knights traveling to Deerfield Beach on Wednesday, Dec 14 at 7 p.m. before playing American Heritage the following night at 7 p.m.
