Mark McGrath Asks Residents to Vote for $75k Coconut Creek Park Upgrade

Coco Point Park can win $75,000 for renovations as part of the Perk your Park project.

Coconut Creek is competing with nine other cities for the prize, and residents can help increase its chances of winning by voting.

The city got Mark McGrath from the band Sugar Ray to promote the cause and asked him to record the message for the residents via Cameo, a company that lets anyone order a personalized video from a celebrity.

McGrath said he knows the band is “off the charts but always in our hearts” and asked the residents to vote every day through September 12.

“Much like the chances of Sugar Ray having a hit in the 90s – they were slim – Coconut Creek is up against some very, very large cities, so they need your help and your daily vote,” the singer said.

The $75K prize would pay for an open play area and nature space, including a butterfly and pollinator garden, exercise equipment, walkways, and nature education for kids and adults.

According to the city, the project would provide the community with ample open space and play areas while connecting them to nature.

Other contestants include Pioneer Canal Park in Boynton Beach, McGriff Park in Fort Pierce, Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex in Deerfield Beach, and Lake David Park in Groveland.
