A man was arrested after pulling a firearm on a family member who threw his marijuana away.
On February 20, the Margate Police Department responded to a domestic violence incident involving a firearm.
According to the report, a man, later identified as Thomas Rogers, 31, of Margate, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery on a person over 65 after allegedly pulling a gun on a family member who threw away his marijuana.
MPD records show the altercation began when the victim, a man married to Rogers’s grandmother, discovered what he suspected to be marijuana left by him in an ashtray.
Soon after the victim disposed of the marijuana, Rogers began searching for it and entered the victim’s room.
Witnesses reported that Rogers became increasingly aggressive, brandishing a black and tan handgun while threatening the victim, warning, “watch what will happen” if his marijuana were discarded again.
Fearing for his life, the victim called 911. During the investigation, Rogers told officers the firearm was concealed and never brandished during their argument. However, he admitted to a physical altercation over the disposal of his marijuana.
MPD later recovered the handgun, which was found in Rogers’s backpack in the living room.
Rogers was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
