Margate Crime Update: Robbery at IHOP, Multiple Thefts, and Arrests

Margate Police responded to various calls through November 4. Below is a detailed account of the incidents handled by local law enforcement during this period.

Here is a breakdown of key events and arrests:

Robbery

• Location: 7944 W. Sample Road (IHOP)
• Incident: Jason Basden allegedly confronted the victim at work, grabbed her by the apron, and took her iPhone 15 Plus, valued at approximately $1,500, before fleeing the scene. The victim’s manager later recovered the phone.
• Charges: Strong-arm robbery (NIC filed).

Retail Theft

• Location: 5555 W. Atlantic Blvd.
• Incident: Henry Williams (DOB: 03/05/1972) allegedly took multiple clothing items, placed them in a duffle bag, and exited without paying. Williams was subsequently detained.
• Charges: Retail theft.

Vehicle Burglary

• Location: 5800 Margate Blvd
• Incident Date: October 30, 2024
• Incident: An unknown suspect broke the rear driver’s side window of a locked black Kia Sportage and tampered with the ignition chamber. No items were reported stolen.

Habitual Traffic Offender, Illegal Tint

• Location: 2000 Rock Island Road
• Incident: During a traffic stop, Leon Moosue (DOB: 10/30/1991) was found to be a habitual traffic violator.
• Charges: Habitual traffic offender, illegal tint.

VOP, Petit Theft, False Impersonation, Possession of False ID Documents

• Location: 5555 W. Atlantic Blvd. (Walmart)
• Incident: Lazaro Montejo (DOB: 11/18/1980) allegedly stole approximately $169 in merchandise and gave officers false information. Montejo, with two prior theft convictions, was on probation.
• Charges: Violation of Probation (VOP), felony petit theft, false impersonation, possession of false ID documents.

Driving Without a License

• Location: 4998 W. Atlantic Blvd. (7-Eleven)
• Incident: Dwayne Brown (B/M, DOB: 11/30/1977) was stopped and subsequently cited for multiple traffic violations.
• Charges: Driving without a license.

Auto Theft and Altered VIN

• Location: 5301 N SR 7, Tamarac
• Incident: Daley Shayn Daley (DOB: 10/04/97) was observed entering stolen vehicles. A traffic stop revealed Daley was driving a stolen vehicle with an altered VIN.
• Charges: Grand theft of motor vehicle, altered VIN. Additional Items: Ski mask, six key fobs.

Petit Theft and Resisting Without Violence

• Location: Marshall’s
• Incident: Ronny Noel (DOB: 09/22/87) allegedly took $269.88 worth of items and fled on foot before being apprehended.
• Charges: Felony petit theft, resisting without violence.

Capias

• Location: 2573 NW 62nd Ave
• Incident: Thomas McNicholas (DOB: 01/15/1987) was arrested on an active DUI warrant.
• Charges: Capias (Driving under the influence).

Possession of Cocaine

• Location: 248 N SR 7
• Incident: During a traffic stop, Donelle F. Harris (B/M, DOB: 4/11/63) was found with cocaine.
• Charges: Possession of cocaine, felony violation of parole.

Theft

• Location: Walmart
• Incident Date: October 30, 2024
• Incident: Victim’s bicycle, valued at $250, was stolen from a tree outside the Walmart entrance. The lock remained on the tree.
• Status: The victim wishes to prosecute.

Domestic Violence

• Location: NW 64th Ave
• Suspect: Ashley Fatal (B/F, DOB: 12/11/1994) reportedly struck another individual during an altercation. Both parties left before the police arrived.
• Charges: Domestic violence (NIC filed for State Attorney review).

Drowning

• Location: Fairway Views Apartments, 5921 Rock Island Road
• Incident: A male was found submerged in a body of water. He was unresponsive and transported to NWMC. Victim remains unidentified.

Trespassing, Resisting Without Violence

• Location: 4998 W. Atlantic Blvd.
• Incident: Walter Maurice Abrams (B/M, DOB: 11/16/1984) was arrested for trespassing after a prior warning and resisting officers without violence.
