Margate City Commissioner Antonio Arserio is championing a heartwarming initiative aimed at bringing comfort to children in distressing situations.
Inspired by a positive experience after a Margate police officer gave his daughter a teddy bear, Arserio said they did not know he was a commissioner. After the incident, he discovered that the officer had purchased the teddy bear with his own money.
Areserio expressed the desire for more officers to be able to give away teddy bears after traffic accidents or domestic disputes without having to pay for them.
“I am glad to see police officers and first responders giving teddy bears to children, but I don’t want them to have to pay for them out of their own pockets. I want residents to donate the stuffed animals so they can have the bears to give to children,” said Arserio.
On Saturday, April 6, Arserio is holding an event where locals can bring new teddy bears to the police and fire departments. The event will offer residents an opportunity to interact with first responders, see police and fire vehicles up close, and contribute to the drive.
It will be held at the Wawa and Culver’s parking lot, located at the Southeast corner of Copans Road and 441, from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.
