Progress is beginning to move forward on the City Center redevelopment project.
The board agreed to a shortlist of potential developers during the September 30Â Margate Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) meeting.
The development companies under consideration include Brookfield Properties, Michaels, Related Group and Kenco Communities. Board members, who are also the Margate commission, discussed the companies and what they could offer the city.
Margate leaders want to create a mixed-use development on the 50-acre area at the corner of Margate Blvd and State Road 7. It will be a new downtown that will attract new residents and be a destination with restaurants and stores.
“This will be an exciting downtown for Margate,” said Commissioner Anthony Caggiano. “It will revitalize the area and be an exciting place to be.”
Vice Mayor Arlene Schwartz said she is looking forward to the new development. “I want the city center to be where people want to be. I am tired of people saying Margate is a pass-through city,” she said.
