Dog Day Afternoon in the Woodlands

Starbuck – Owners Jeff and Yanfei Smoley

By Sharon Aron Baron

When the weather is as beautiful as it was on Friday afternoon, many dogs and owners love to come out for a visit near the Country Club.   Woodlands residents are obsessed with their dogs, and one of the great things about having one (or two) is it allows them to meet other dogs as well.

While walking their dogs, our neighbors chat about things around the community. Mostly, they talk about their dogs, but that’s ok.   Owners share information about groomers, veterinarians, and even dog sitters.

Dogs are like children to many of our residents and are also excellent protection, as no one will mess with your home with a noisy, barking dog. Dogs are also like forced exercise machines, making you have to physically get up out of that chair and take them out periodically.   Walking with my dogs makes me aware of what’s happening around me and allows me to visit with my neighbors.

Because we aren’t allowed those big, ugly fences around our yards in the Woodlands, we must walk our pets. This is why you rarely hear dogs barking incessantly in their backyards as in other communities.

Not all of our dogs are well-mannered all the time; while leashed, some of them have gotten into a few dog fights.  These dogs have all types of personalities here in the Woodlands.

Just like our residents!
