Bargains and Bits

Take a look at the new flowers that were just planted at our main entrance this week.   Give them a few weeks – They really are going to look gorgeous when they grow in a bit.  Thank you to the grounds maintenance crew at the Woodlands Country Club.

A big thank you to the WHOA and the country club for maintaining our fountains as well.  Every fountain should be working at this time.  If not, please let our WHOA president know.  The main entrance fountain is working better than ever and shooting water high into the sky.   If you see it getting low, chances are we have had a lot of rain and the water needs to be drained from the pool below.   Fresh flowers and running fountains are noticed by our homeowners and visitors, and are the little things that keep the Woodlands looking beautiful.

Bargains

If you’ve never had your car washed at Prestige Car Wash on University Drive near Inverrary Blvd, then you and your car are missing a great and inexpensive cleaning.  Prestige is a full service car wash with a comfortable waiting room.  They also have a drive through option for those in a hurry – and on a budget.   Catch the early bird special every Monday thru Friday from 8am – 9am where you get $2 off the normal price of $5.  You can also get the same thing during their “Happy Hour” from 6pm – 7pm Monday thru Friday.  Just roll up your windows, put your car in neutral and relax as the conveyor belt takes your car through the wash.   My kids love to watch the action from inside the car and it’s guaranteed to quiet them down for a few minutes.

Hair

Do you have hair that needs straightening?   More than likely you don’t.  But if you do you know that Keratin treatments, otherwise known as “Brazilian keratin treatments”, cost around $350 to $400 and the results only last a few months.   These treatments will leave  wavy or kinky hair soft and straight like a doll or child’s hair.   I found a beautician that charges $99 no matter what length your hair is.   I can recommend him because he has straightened my hair twice and it was fantastic while it lasted.  Now that it’s wearing off it’s becoming wavy again and hard to blow dry.   Can’t wait to go back again.   Once located near the Woodlands, he is at his other location on East Commercial.   http://keratinman.com/default.aspx

Kids eat free

Bru’s Room Sportsgrill on 1000 North University Drive has some great deals for parents.  On Tuesday night from 5pm – 9pm kids eat free and on Thursday evenings from 5pm – 9pm, kids eat for 1/2 off.   This is a fantastic deal, plus they have a game room in the back where kids can play in the arcade while you keep an eye on them close by at your table.   They can win tickets and cash in their winnings for prizes.   This will keep them out of your hair for a good 20 minutes while you and your husband have some adult time. http://www.brusroom.com/

At Chick-fil-A on Commercial Blvd west of University, Family night is on Tuesday nights from 5-8pm where you child gets a free child’s meal (1 for each paying adult).   Chick-fil-A is not your typical fast food restaurant, at least this one isn’t.  The servers (yes, they serve your food) are friendly and enthusiastic about their jobs.   The restaurant includes a kid’s playroom that is clean as the restaurant.  The Chick-fil-A Cow even walks around greeting all the customers.  I enjoy going there and the kid’s do too, except for that time when I saw a kid kick the Chick-fil-A Cow. Ouch.

Early Bird

I love the Pastrami Club on University Drive.   The sandwiches are huge and the menu is as well.   The atmosphere is rather dull and the place could use some spiffing up, but you can’t go wrong with their food.   Their early bird special is from 3pm – 5pm (you must be seated by that time) on Mondays thru Sundays.    For $9.99 you get an entree, soup and one side dish and it includes a beverage and dessert.  Entrees are: Roast Chicken, Grilled liver and onions, stuffed cabbage, veggie cutlet, baked scrod, or stuffed pepper.   No sharing allowed.  http://www.pastramiclub.com/index.htm

Movie Early Bird

I love Sunrise 11 movie theater on Pine Island Road.   Formally known as Fox Sunrise, it was recently purchased by the Frank Entertainment Group and is now called Frank Theaters.   What I love about this theater is that I hardly ever see teenagers and babies in here unlike other theaters further West.   Go to the Muvico Theatre in Davie and watch an adult themed movie.  Chances are very likely that some couple will bring their crying baby in with them, instead of getting a babysitter.   You won’t see this at Sunrise 11, nor will you see groups of loud teenagers.  The only annoyance you will have to contend with are people who are hard-of-hearing talking loudly, usually asking the person next to them, “What did she say?”   It’s a mild annoyance I can live with.    This theater has an early bird special on Monday thru Thursdays, excluding holidays, where tickets are only $5 for the first showtime each day.   For an additional $5 you can also get a combo popcorn and a soft drink which is a bargain at a cinema.  Of course, senior discounts are given here.  http://www.franktheaters.com/Home.aspx

Free Entrance

On Martin Luther Kings Birthday weekend on January 15 – 17,  all national parks will have free entrance fees.   This includes Everglades National Park,, Dry Tortugas National Park, Canaveral National Seashore, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument and Gulf Islands National Seashore.  Everglades National Park is so close to us and there are many scheduled activities going on over the weekend.   http://blogs.trb.com/features/consumer/shopping/blog/2011/01/free_admission_to_florida_nati_1.html

Adopt a Dog

I love the Humane Society of Broward County.   This is a fantastic place to go with the family to look at the cats and dogs.  It is a clean and beautiful facility with a well-stocked pet store inside.  If you find a pet to adopt here, you will be interviewed by an adoption counselor to make sure you and your pet are a good match.  Plus, they want to make sure the pet will be well-taken care of and live inside your home.  Adoption fees are a bargain at only $100 to adopt a dog and $85 to adopt a cat.  This fee includes:

I don’t get any discounts for mentioning these bargains.  If you know of any deals in the area,  please add them below and share with your neighbors.
