The Margate Community Redevelopment Agency recently completed the purchase of a parcel of land at 1100 State Road 7 for $3.8 million.
It was announced at the July 8 meeting that the CRA had closed on the property that contains the Country Haven Motel. The structure is now vacant and awaiting demolition.
Mayor Arlene Schwartz is pleased that the CRA now owns the property and is looking forward to seeing the structure demolished. “Because of the property’s location, it naturally will become part of the city center project,” said Schwartz.
Commissioner and CRA Board Chair Anthony Caggiano said the old motel is an example of slum and blight and needs to go. “The whole reason for a CRA is to get rid of slum and blight, and that is what is on this property. It was a great idea for us to purchase this property,” he said.
