A man attempting to steal a video game by hiding it in a Walmart bag was apprehended, then arrested by Margate Police.
On November 28, Shawn Cedric Green, 43, of Fort Lauderdale, entered the Walmart Supercenter at 5555 W Atlantic Blvd and selected an electronic video game hard drive from the shelf valued at $189, and placed it in a Walmart bag — all while being watched on surveillance video.
According to police, after attempting to exit the store, passing all points of sale, a Margate Police officer tried to stop him; however, Green resisted. The officer got him to the ground, where he continued to brace, tense, and physically resist until he was detained a short time later.Â
A records search confirmed that Green had three active warrants out of Broward County. It was later determined Green had five prior convictions for theft, most recently being in January and March of 2019.Â
Green is currently being held without bond.
