Two college students received scholarships at the August 21 Margate commission meeting.
Elyssa Washington, a student at Broward College, and Carolina Gilbert, a student at Florida State University, each received a $2,500 scholarship through a partnership between Margate and Republic Services.
Washington was able to attend the meeting to receive the award; however, Gilbert could not because she was in Tallahassee.
“They are super students and have worked very hard to achieve success,” said Chase Cresto, general manager for Republic.
“This is a good scholarship for me. I am working toward an associate of arts degree at Broward College, and then I will earn a business administration degree from Florida Atlantic University,” said Washington.
Washington currently works at a non-profit organization.
