It is so hard to believe that the summer is already coming to an end and that the school year is about to start again.
As a mom of two children who are now grown, I can certainly relate to those of you sending your children off to preschool, kindergarten, middle school, high school, or college for the first time. It can be hard, but please know that your child can manage the new situation, and more importantly, let your child know that you know they can handle it and that you will always be there to support them.
If you have the time, volunteering at school can be very rewarding. I fondly remember my time volunteering with the PTA, sports, and debate teams, which allowed me to support the school and its programs while also building long-lasting friendships. I wish everyone a wonderful rest of the summer and a great start to the 2026/27 school year!
Broward County Public School students return to school on August 10, while teachers, administrators, and staff go back on August 3. As students and staff head back to school, please be mindful of the school zones and look out for students crossing the road or riding bicycles to get to school. Please allow yourself extra time in the morning so that you are not in a rush and can be fully attentive while driving. Let’s get the school year off to a safe and wonderful start!
As we prepare to go back to school, the Florida Legislature approved a month-long Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday this year to help alleviate the cost of school supplies. The sales tax holiday takes place July 20 – August 20, 2026, and covers a wide range of qualifying school supplies and clothes. Primary Elections are taking place this month. Early voting is from August 8 to 16, and the early voting sites are open from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Election Day is Tuesday, August 18, and polling locations are open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. The deadline to request a vote by mail ballot is August 6 at 5pm. You can find all information about the elections as well as a sample ballot at the Supervisor of Elections website at browardvotes.gov. Please do your research on the candidates and make a plan to vote. Many elected positions, such as school board, will be decided in the primary election, so please make your voice heard by voting.
