Margate Elementary Now Part of Afterschool Supper Program

By Sharon Aron Baron

Research shows that well-nourished children are healthier, more attentive, and have better mental performance than undernourished children.

Broward County Public Schools is adding five new schools to its afterschool Supper Program, including Margate Elementary, for a total of 120 schools serving nutritious suppers to students.

The Supper Program ensures that more than 10,000 students participating in regularly scheduled afterschool educational or enrichment activity programs receive the nutrition they need to learn and grow.

The suppers are funded through the federal Child Care Food Program, which provides healthy meals in the childcare setting. Meals meet all USDA requirements and are made available at no additional charge to students participating in afterschool programs, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity.

Supper service at Margate Elementary, along with Broward Estates Elementary,  McArthur High School, Westwood Heights Elementary, and William Dandy Middle School, begins on October 3, 2022.
