A man was arrested and charged with throwing an object at a moving vehicle after witnesses reported watching him standing at an intersection while throwing things at passing cars.
On March 17, the Margate Police Department received an emergency call from a witness claiming a man, later identified as Kimarni Cotto, 22, of North Lauderdale, was throwing objects at a moving vehicle in the vehicle area of West Atlantic Blvd and Rock Island Road.
According to the police report, the victim was driving northbound on Rock Island Road when an object was thrown at his car, causing damage to the passenger side.
According to the report, the victim’s car, a back Ford Mustang, reportedly sustained a significant dent and gouge on the passenger side under the window.
A witness who saw the incident reported to a patrolling officer what they had seen and described the suspect as a tall thin black male wearing all black.
The report states the officer was able to locate and stop a black male fitting that description and was accompanied by the witness, who positively identified the man, later identified as Cotto, as the person they witnessed throwing objects at cars.
According to the report, Cotto admitted throwing objects at vehicles during questioning because he was angry but did not indicate what he was mad about.
Officers that responded to the scene noted in the report evidence was found that confirmed the victim’s and witnesses’ claims, including a piece of broken cement in the gutter on the roadway at the exact location of the incident.
Cotto was placed under arrest and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
