State Rep. Christine Hunschofsky, D-Parkland, has been named the 2026 Legislator of the Year by the Broward County Council of PTAs/PTSAs, recognizing her advocacy on behalf of children and public education.
The award was presented during the Broward PTA’s annual awards banquet, where Hunschofsky was honored for her legislative efforts and community outreach.
According to the organization, her work includes sponsoring gun safety legislation, advocating for school safety, and opposing efforts to dismantle the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Act.
She was also recognized for supporting legislation aimed at expanding access to student services, including House Bill 753, which seeks to remove barriers for school counselors and is awaiting the governor’s action.
In addition, Hunschofsky has worked to raise awareness about student mental health through legislative advocacy and initiatives such as annual teen mental health town halls.
“Supporting families, strengthening public education, and making sure students have the resources they need to succeed will always be a priority for me,” Hunschofsky said. “I’m grateful to the Broward PTA for this recognition and for all they do to advocate for students and families in our community.”
Bernie J. Kemp, president of the Broward PTA, praised Hunschofsky’s leadership.
“Rep. Hunschofsky has been a strong advocate for children and public education throughout her career in the Legislature,” Kemp said. “She has stood firm on gun safety and consistently works to strengthen these protections while prioritizing the mental health needs of our students.”
The Broward County PTA selected Hunschofsky as its Legislator of the Year for the 2025–2026 term.
