Professional boxer Hector Perez was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, three counts of aggravated child abuse, false imprisonment of a child, and occupied burglary ramming his girlfriend’s vehicle, smashing the windshield, and the couple’s shared daughter.
On March 9, the Margate Police Department responded to a domestic violence incident near the 6400 block of Southwest 7th Court. The incident involved a victim and a man, later identified as professional boxer Hector Eligio Perez De Los Santos, 32, of Coral Springs.
According to an arrest report, the victim told police had planned to take her three daughters out for breakfast when Perez De Los Santos became upset because he believed she was leaving him and taking their shared child to New Jersey.
The victim told officers on the family’s way to breakfast; she realized De Los Santos was following her in his silver Honda sedan. The victim said she soon observed him driving progressively more erratically before ramming into her vehicle in an attempt to get her to stop.
The report says the victim and her daughters feared for their lives and attempted to flee from Perez De Los Santos, but he positioned his vehicle across the roadway to block their escape.
The arrest report shows witnesses told police Perez De Los Santos exited his vehicle and began yelling at the victim to give him their shared child.
When the victim refused, witnesses said Perez De Los Santos jumped onto the hood of her car and began striking the windshield with a closed fist.
According to witnesses and the victim, Perez De Los Santos could break through the windshield and unlock the driver-side door, then the rear passenger door where the victim was sitting.
The report says Perez De Los Santos then took the victim out of the car and fled the scene in his vehicle. The victim recorded the incident on her phone, showing Perez breaking the windshield and the victims screaming out of fear.
According to the report, police later contacted Perez via telephone to obtain his whereabouts and ensure the safety of the victim and her children.
On the phone, Perez De Los Santos admitted to officers that he had used his vehicle to block the victim’s car and broke the windshield to gain access to the vehicle but denied having kidnapped his daughter.
Police were later able to locate him in Fort Lauderdale, where he was later transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
