Woman Killed in Crash Involving Coconut Creek Police Officer

A 30-year-old woman was killed and a Coconut Creek Police officer injured in a vehicle crash early Sunday, authorities said.

Divinity C. Cureton, of Pembroke Pines, was driving west in the 4200 block of West Sample Road when her 2017 Toyota Camry struck the rear end of a marked 2020 Ford Explorer police cruiser in what authorities called a “sideswipe style collision” just before 4 a.m.

As the Explorer stopped, Cureton lost control of her Camry, which struck a palm tree in the center median, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

The Camry ricocheted off the tree and came to rest in the westbound lanes, authorities said.

Coconut Creek police officers and Margate Fire Department personnel responded, and both drivers were rushed to an area hospital for treatment.

Cureton was pronounced dead at the hospital at 5:04 a.m, authorities said. The officer involved was treated and released.

His name was not made public by authorities.

At the request of Coconut Creek Police, BSO traffic homicide detectives are investigating the crash.
