A man was arrested after being shot by a TV installation repairman he stabbed during an altercation.

On February 26, two individuals were contracted through social media to install a wall-mounted TV at a residence.

Upon arrival, they were confronted by a man, later identified as Ruben Altidor, 34, of Margate, who exhibited erratic behavior, including opening their car door as they attempted to flee.

According to records, an adult resident intervened, calming Altidor and convincing the workers to stay and complete the work they had contracted them to do.  However, Altidor attempted to enter the locked bedroom where the TV installation was taking place. When the door was momentarily opened, Altidor rushed in, armed with a knife, and attacked one of the workers.

Fearing for his life, the victim fired one to two rounds from a legally obtained firearm at Altidor after being attacked and cut on his wrist. Despite being shot, Altidor continued his assault, leading to a struggle over the firearm.

The victim managed to fire additional rounds before deciding to disengage the firearm’s magazine to prevent Altidor from using it against him.

During the struggle, the victim was stabbed and bitten before he eventually pushed Altidor out of the bedroom and locked the door.

Upon exiting the residence, he contacted the Margate Police Department, who investigated the incident and stated that based on statements and physical evidence, Altidor was identified as the primary aggressor.

The victim’s use of force was deemed necessary for self-defense.

Altidor was subsequently transported to North Broward Hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.

Upon medical clearance, he was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail where he is being held on a $50,000 bond.
