As we kick off October, we are reminded that this month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
This is a good time for all women who have not done so in the past year to make an appointment for a mammogram. Early detection can save your life, so I encourage all of you to be proactive with your screenings.
Eligible women can receive free breast and cervical cancer screenings at various locations in Broward, Palm Beach, and Martin counties through the Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.

Our communities also have several events to not only create awareness but also to raise funds to support the cause. The Coral Springs-Parkland Annual Cancer Awareness Pasta Dinner will be on October 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fire Station 80 at 2825 Coral Springs Drive.
The delicious dinner prepared by our firefighters is $8. “Not My Daughter … Find a Cure Now” will have its annual luncheon at the Heron Bay Marriott on October 30. For more information, visit their website at https://www.notmydaughter.org
October 10 is World Mental Health Day and a time to raise awareness of mental health issues. This year’s theme is “Mental Health is a universal human right.” We have many mental health resources available in Broward County. If you or someone you know needs help, the new crisis hotline number is 988.
Additionally, in Broward, you can dial 211 or visit 211-Broward.org to connect with resources in the community. Eagles Haven (eagleshaven.org) also has free wellness programs and licensed clinicians. Tomorrow’s Rainbow (tomorrowsrainbow.org) provides free grief counseling, and the Children’s Bereavement Center (childbereavement.org) has free grief support groups.
Every person has struggles with their mental and physical health sometime in their life. It’s important to acknowledge when we need help and to get the help we need.
I would also like to introduce you to our newest team member in our District 95 office, William Giliberti. William will serve as our Legislative Aide for District 95. He is a Broward County resident, a recent University of South Florida graduate, and comes to our team after interning in Tallahassee this past Legislative Session. As always, our constituents are our number one priority, and we want to hear from you. We have two pre-legislative session Town Halls in October – on Monday, October 9, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Parkland City Hall at 6600 N University Drive in Parkland and on Wednesday, October 25, from 7–to 8 p.m. at Coconut Creek City Hall at 4800 West Copans Road. All are invited and encouraged to attend.
