Some Margate residents might be in for a smelly April.
Residents with homes around the Margate Wastewater Treatment Plant, located on the west side of Northwest 66th Avenue, may notice increased odors through April while the city’s sewage treatment structures are being cleaned, officials said Monday.
“This temporary inconvenience is due to the city’s efforts to clean our sewage treatment structures, which requires the removal of covers that usually enclose odor-generating operations,” the city government said in a post on its Facebook page.
“To minimize impacts on our neighbors, the City is only uncovering 3 (out of 28) treatment units at a time and has increased dosages of odor neutralizers,” officials wrote. “In the long term, this will reduce odors and improve treatment processes.”
The work is part of an upgrade to the city’s wastewater treatment plant, officials said.
