Liberty the bloodhound is on the job in Coconut Creek, thanks to some creative schoolkids.
Three classes at three elementary schools–Tradewinds, Winston Park, and Coconut Creek–submitted potential puppy names in the police department’s contest to name its newest, furriest member: Liberty, the first tracking bloodhound in Coconut Creek Police Department history.
Liberty, a girl, was born on Sept. 11, 2022, in Kentucky, according to the school district.
The puppy will lend her skills to searches for missing children and people with special needs who wander away from home. She will also be trained as a therapy dog, authorities said.
Dozens of monikers were submitted in the naming contest, but Liberty stood out, school officials said. Three classes at Tradewinds Elementary submitted the name, so all three will be named winners.
The winning students will be surprised at Tradewinds Tuesday with a visit from Liberty and some of her police department colleagues.
They will announce the results of the contest and treat the winning classes to a pizza party, authorities said.
