Delroy Gordon and Matthew Reid {BSO}

Two men were charged with gun crimes this month after a Margate police officer pulled them over only to find the barrel of a rifle pointed at him, court records show.

Matthew Reid,  21, and Delroy Gordon, 19, both of 6733 NW 1st Ct., were riding in a gray Mercedes Benz sedan in the 2200 block of Rock Island Rd. on June 7, with Reid driving, when Margate Police stopped him for illegal tints and careless driving, according to an arrest affidavit.

As an officer approached the Mercedes, he “could see a barrel to a rifle pointed at me,” which turned out to be a Zavair Arms Z15 model.

“The rifle was laying in the center of the rear floorboard, propped up at an angle…and was concealed by a blue and white towel that covered all but the barrel.”

Neither man had a gun permit, but when officers searched the car, they found a second gun: a loaded black Glock 19 with an extended magazine, hidden under the driver’s seat, according to the affidavit.

A records check revealed that Reid was a three-time convicted felon on probation for fleeing and eluding police, the records state.

Police charged Reid with carrying a concealed firearm, possessing a weapon by a convicted felon, probation violations, and traffic violations, records show.

Gordon was charged with grand theft of a firearm and carrying a concealed firearm.

Reid was held without bond Monday at Broward’s Joseph V. Conte Facility, while Gordon was released on an unspecified bond.
