Margate will host its annual Memorial Day ceremony to honor men and women who “paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom” and died while serving in the U.S. military, according to an announcement from the city.
The event will take place at Veterans Memorial Park, 7044 NW 1st St., on Monday, May 30, 2022, starting at 9 a.m. It is free and open to the public.
The featured speaker will be U.S. Navy Petty Officer William Vasquez, and a student from Monarch High School will perform the national anthem, city officials said.
“The City of Margate is home to many military families who have served in the U.S. Armed forces,” said Mayor Antonio Arserio. “Every year, we take the time to honor their service, especially to our fallen soldiers. The Memorial Day Ceremony is an opportunity to reflect on those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and remind us that freedom comes at a cost.”
Several Margate elected officials are expected to attend the event, including Arserio, Vice Mayor Anthony Caggiano, Commissioner Tommy Ruzzano, Commissioner Arlene Schwartz, and Commissioner Joanne Simone.
The invocation will be performed by Pastor Greg McCleod from Abundant Life Church.
