Margate Police are mourning the loss of one of their own.

Sgt. Jeffrey Arbogast, 35, died on February 25, according to the police department. Authorities have not disclosed how Arbogast died.

“We are all mourning the untimely death of Sergeant Jeffrey Arbogast #3522,” Margate Police wrote on their Facebook page Monday. “We ask that the entire community please keep Jeff and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

According to an online obituary, Arbogast is survived by his wife, Tina; their daughter, Makenzie; his parents, Steve and Debbie Arbogast; siblings, Greg Arbogast and Stacey (John) Twombly; and his nephews, Zane and Luke.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 2, at 11 a.m. at Coastal Community Church, 6800 N. University Dr. in Parkland, according to the department.

All attendees are urged to arrive prior to 10:30 a.m., enter Coastal Community Church, and find their seats ahead of the funeral procession and service.

Instead of flowers, police said contributions in remembrance of Arbogast can be made to A21.org, an organization that combats human trafficking.

In 2020, Arbogast received the Combating Human Trafficking Award from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement during the annual Florida Missing Children’s Day ceremony. Only one officer in the state receives the award each year.

In 2016, Arbogast and a colleague received the Margate Police Department’s Community Oriented Policing Award for helping a family displaced by a roof collapse.

Arbogast was promoted from officer to sergeant in 2023.

The city of Margate issued a press release Monday stating that Arbogast “served our community with great dedication and commitment, touching the lives of everyone around him.”

“Please join us in honoring the memory of Sergeant Arbogast and expressing our deepest gratitude for his dedicated service to the City of Margate,” the release said.
