A Margate man was arrested on domestic battery by strangulation charges after violently assaulting his girlfriend.

On November 20, the Margate Police Department responded to a domestic violence incident that reportedly involved severe injury.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a victim who had allegedly been assaulted by her boyfriend, later identified as Barry Petitdos, 44, of Margate.

According to the victim, Petitdos grabbed her by her neck with both hands, lifted her off the ground, slammed her against her vehicle, and struck her on the left side of her face.

While she attempted to flee, the victim alleges that Petitdos once again grabbed her by the neck, this time slamming her onto the concrete driveway. The victim described to officers that during the altercation, she was unable to breathe for an estimated 3-5 seconds.

Law enforcement officers on the scene detailed in their report observing multiple red marks on the victim’s neck and swelling on the left side of her face.

After an investigation involving interviews with multiple people, Petitdos was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. During his arrest, it was discovered that he was also on probation and had thus violated that order.

Petitdos was later released after posting a $10,000 bond.
