Margate Crime Update: Employee Steals 3k From Dunkin’ Donuts

Through our joint effort with the Margate Police Department to share updates with residents, this is a summary of Margate’s crime and arrests through January 7.

Theft 

The bicycle theft was reported at 5470 W. Sample Road (Planet Fitness). The victim parked his black and green Mongoose Bicycle in front of Planet Fitness in the bike rack, and when he returned, the bicycle was gone. The bike is valued at approx—$ 300.

Grand Theft Auto

A stolen vehicle was reported at 246 N SR 7. An unknown male subject approached the back of the repair shop, entered a 2010 Mercedes E-350, reversed out of the shop, and drove away southbound. Plantation PD later located the vehicle in their city at the Plantation Inn, where they detained two occupants.

Aggravated Assault – Domestic

An Aggravated Assault (Domestic) was reported on NW 1st Street. 

Shaunna McWilliams and the victim were engaged in a verbal argument that escalated when the defendant grabbed her gun, pulled the slide back, and chambered a round. Defendant pointed the gun at the victim.

Theft-All Other

Dunkin Donuts was the victim of Theft-All Other at 399 S State Road 7.  An employee is suspected of stealing four bank deposits totaling $3,177.25 from the business on 01/06/2023. 

Office Depot was the victim of Theft- All Other at 5500 W Sample Rd, on 01/03/2023. The total estimated loss was $819.

Value Pawn was the victim of Theft – All Other at 2001 N Sr 7 on 01/04/2023. The total estimated loss was $1,325.

Vehicle Burglary

A Vehicle Burglary was reported on SW 65th Avenue. On 01/07/23, the victim’s 2024 black Mercedes was entered by a male approximately 6′ tall, thin build, wearing a hooded sweater and sweatpants. The male removed a black Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun from the glove box.

Shooting/Agg. Battery/Capias 

A Shooting/Agg. Battery/Capias was reported at The Lakes, 5770 Lakeside Dr. North. Teshon Cartwright shot (2) rounds toward the victim inside the apartment. The suspect then fled the residence. K-9 tracked the suspect to the canal east of the building. The suspect refused to exit the canal. SRT/CIU/CSI responded to the scene, where the suspect was removed from the water, medically cleared, and transported to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail. 

Robbery

A 29-year-old male was the victim of a Robbery at 3300 NW 62nd Ave on 01/09/2023. The total estimated loss was $725.

Armed Robbery 

An Armed Robbery was reported at 3300 NW 62nd Ave (Best Buy Parking Lot). The victim arrived on the scene to sell a phone and was robbed at gunpoint by two males. Two black iPhones and a set of keys were taken. 

Arrests

Miguel Swaby, a 34-year-old male, was arrested on a charge of DUI under a traffic stop at 2000 N SR 7.

Bates, Antonio Alexander, a 54-year-old male, was arrested on a charge of Agg Assault W/ Deadly Weapon- Domestic Violence on NW 79th Ter, on 01/03/2023.

Mcwilliams, Shaunna Marie, a 44-year-old female, was arrested on a charge of Aggravated Assault W/ Deadly Weapon- Domestic Violence on NW 1st Street on 01/05/2023.

Sajda, Timothy David, a 56-year-old male, was arrested on a charge of Aggravated Assault – W/ Deadly Weapon Without Intent to Kill on NW 28th Drive on 01/05/2023.
