Through our joint effort with the Margate Police Department to share updates with residents, this is a summary of Margate’s crime and arrests through Dec. 24, 2022
Theft
The City of Margate was the victim of Theft- City Property on 12/18/22. A generator (Christmas Lights) from the median of Southgate Blvd and S. State Road 7 was stolen. The approximate value was $339.
Best Buy at 3300 NW 62nd Avenue was the victim of Theft – All Other on 12/26/22. The total value of the stolen items was $500.
Grand Theft
Suspect Clifton Dickson attempted to shoplift from Walmart, 5555 West Atlantic Blvd. The various items totaled $2,680.77. Police list Jeffrey Lawson as the getaway driver.
Grand Theft Auto
On 12/22/22, at 1950 Banks Rd, a male gained access to a lock box and was able to retrieve the key for a U-Haul 15ft box truck and subsequently left with the box truck.
A 28-year-old male victim was the victim of Auto Theft on NW 76th Avenue 0n 12/26/22.
Stolen vehicle
On Dec. 24, 2022, the victim viewed her vehicle being driven away from her driveway on East River Drive by an unknown subject(s). The vehicle was located a short time later by officers driving on E River with two males bailing out of it after a traffic stop was conducted. Arrested were Zachary Griffen and Jakari Lyons. Both subjects were taken into custody and taken to the Broward County Main Jail and Broward Sheriff’s Office Juvenile Assessment Center.
Theft of Auto Parts
Overnight on NW 1st St, four vehicles had their tires/rims stolen, valued at approximately $1,600 each. Vehicles included two Honda Accords and two Toyotas.
A victim’s vehicle on Rock Island Road was a Toyota – four tires/rims were stolen.
A 70-year-old female was the victim of Theft – Motor Vehicle Parts on NW 1st Street. The estimated loss was $3,200.
Armed Robbery
Two males wearing all dark clothing, ski masks, and gloves entered 2185 N SR 7 on 12/22/22 with firearms and robbed two customers. Victim one had a $33,500 watch, a yellow backpack containing $800 cash, an iPhone X, a wallet with a Florida ID, and bank cards. Victim two had a wallet, Florida ID, concealed permit, $1000 cash, and bank cards. The suspects proceeded to enter a black Chevy Camaro convertible and fled the scene southbound.
Robbery
A 22-year-old male was the victim of a Robbery on North State Road 7 on 12/22/22. The total estimated loss was $36,000.
Retail Theft
An unknown suspect entered the Walgreens at 7150 W. Atlantic Blvd on 12/28/22 and stole approximately $90 in laundry detergent and related products. The suspect was a male of a thin build and 6 feet tall.
Walmart at 5555 West Atlantic Boulevard was the victim of Theft/Retail Shoplifting on 12/21/22. The total estimated loss was $2,680.
Petit Theft
The Detail Officer at Walmart attempted to detain Christopher Johnson, a 22-year-old male after he concealed items in a tote bag. Johnson would not comply with the detail officer and pushed him away as he attempted to flee the store. Johnson was subsequently taken into custody in front of the store. He refused to provide his name but was ultimately identified. During a search, police located a fraudulent driver’s license and a small bag of cocaine. Additionally, Johnson had multiple felony fraud warrants.
Domestic Battery
A Domestic Battery arrest was made on SW 54th Avenue. Melvis Berlanga, 41, the defendant, reportedly got drunk, slapped the victim in the head, and grabbed the victim by the throat. The defendant had left the scene before the arrival of the police. The defendant was later located at his parent’s house.
Battery
A 31-year-old female was the victim of Battery, reported on 12/25/22 on NW 8th Street.
A 48-year-old female was the victim of Battery, reported on 12/22/22. The incident happened on Seminole Trail, and the total loss was $2,500.
Aggravated Assault w/Deadly Weapon
Subject Charles Abell, a 64-year-old male, threatened the victim with a knife.
A 33-year-old male was the victim of Aggravated Assault on Holiday Springs Boulevard on 12/25/22.
Burglary Conveyance
A Victim of Burglary Conveyance at NW 28th St. A total loss of $1000 was reported on 12/25/22.
A 38-year-old male was the victim of Burglary – Conveyance on South State Road 7 on 12/24/22. The total loss was $400.
Sexual Battery
A protected victim was the Victim of Sexual Battery reported on 12/20/22.
Burglary Building/ Structure
Dunkin Donuts at 399 State Road 7 was the victim of a Burglary Building/ Structure on 12/20/22. The total loss was $200.
Hit and Run
A 58-year-old male was the victim of a Hit and Run on 2801 N State Road 7 on 12/19/22.
A 70-year-old female was the victim of a Hit and Run on NW 60th Avenue on 12/21/22.
Arrests
Lawson, Jeffery Lemont, male, 23, was arrested on 12/21/22 on a charge of Larceny Grand Theft of $750 less than $5,000 at 5555 West Atlantic Blvd.
Dickson, Clifton Tarod, male, 37, was arrested on 12/21/22 on a charge of Larceny Grand Theft of $300 less than $5,000 at 5555 West Atlantic Blvd.
Hibbert, Durrell Simon, male, 38, was arrested on 12/22/22 on a charge of Larceny Grand Theft of $750 less than $5,000 at 3300 NW 62nd Avenue.
Wilson, Jevon Keith, male, 40, was arrested on 12/22/22 on a charge of Larceny Grand Theft of $750 less than $5,000 at 3300 NW 62nd Avenue.
Poole, Lorenzo Tyrone, male, 46, was arrested on a charge of Touch or Strike / Battery/ Domestic Violence on Seminole Terrace on 12/22/22
Thomas, Christopher Racshee, male, 42, was arrested on a charge of Larceny – Petit Theft 2nd degree 1st Offense at 5555 West Atlantic Boulevard on 12/22/22
Lyons, Jakari, male, 18, was arrested on a charge of Burglary – Structure Unoccupied/Unarmed on East River Drive on 12/24/22.
Berlanga, Melvis Julio, male, 41, was arrested on a charge of Battery – Cause Bodily Harm – Domestic Violence on SW 54th Avenue on 12/25/22
Vincent, Steven, male, 33, was arrested on a charge of Battery – causing Bodily Harm – Domestic Violence on NW 8th Street on 12/25/22.
Abell, Charles Thomas, male, 64, was arrested on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon -Domestic Violation on Holiday Springs Boulevard on 12/25/22.
