A Rhode Island man was arrested on bomb threat charges at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Sunday night, authorities said.

Tyler Baeder, 27, of Westerly, Rhode Island, allegedly said, “Call the cops, I have a bomb in my bag,” an airport employee told the Broward Sheriff’s Office. According to detectives with BSO’s Threat Management Unit, deputies were alerted to the possible bomb threat in Terminal 1, located at 50 Terminal Drive, after Baeder allegedly made the remark around 5:26 p.m. Sunday.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Baeder made the statement after having trouble using a kiosk to check into his flight, detectives said. The employee who heard the statement immediately notified TSA personnel, who contacted deputies, according to BSO. Deputies immediately took Baeder into custody and evacuated the upper level of Terminal 1.

BSO’s Bomb Squad and Threat Management Unit detectives were notified and arrived at the terminal to investigate.

“Investigators thoroughly inspected Baeder’s belongings, and the threat was deemed unfounded,” BSO said in a press release.

Baeder is charged with one count of making a false report concerning planting a bomb, explosive, or weapon of mass destruction and one count of resisting an officer without violence. He was being held Monday at the BSO North Broward Bureau jail in Pompano Beach. Bond information was not immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing, according to BSO.
