A Coconut Creek man angered by the remodeling work performed by his home contractor struck the man in the head with a baseball bat, court records show.

On Sept. 12, the victim arrived at the apartment of Gennady Barakon, 61, of 1502 Cayman Way in the Wynmoor community, to perform an inspection, according to an arrest affidavit.

Barakon, who had two friends with him, called the contractor “a scam artist” and demanded he returned his money, the affidavit states.

As Barakon and the victim argued, Barakon hit him in the back of his head with a brown baseball bat, pulled him inside the apartment, and closed the door, records show.

The victim tried to escape, but Barakon and his friends blocked the door, according to Coconut Creek Police.

The contractor told them he wanted to leave, but Barakon said he could not go “until you write a promissory note,” the affidavit states.

Fearing for his life, the contractor wrote out the note promising to return Barakon’s money, left the apartment, and called the police, records show.

The man suffered a bruise and scratches to his head, police said.

Barakon was arrested and charged with false imprisonment as well as aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability.

He was booked into the Broward County Main Jail and released on a $15,000 bond. Records show he has pleaded not guilty.
