A driver was killed in a rear-end crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Coconut Creek Sunday, authorities said.
The deceased driver was a 29-year-old man from Coconut Creek. The surviving driver, a 23-year-old woman from Lake Worth, reported no injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The drivers’ names were not made public by FHP.
The crash happened around 3:12. a.m. as a 2017 black Land Rover Discovery, driven by the man, sped north on the turnpike at a “high rate of speed,” an FHP crash report states.
Just north of the Coconut Creek Parkway entrance ramp, the front of the Land Rover struck the left rear end of the woman’s white 2013 Kia Optima, troopers said.
Both drivers lost control of their vehicles, according to FHP.
The Range Rover overturned multiple times, and its driver was ejected.
He came to rest on the turnpike’s grassy shoulder, where Coconut Creek Fire Rescue personnel pronounced him dead, the crash report states.
FHP said their investigation into the crash is ongoing.
