A Monarch High School graduate has won a $1,000 scholarship from Do The Right Thing of Coconut Creek for helping a classmate find college financial aid, police announced Wednesday.
Michelle Gordon, a former Coconut Creek Police Explorer, is the second of four recipients to be awarded scholarship money by the organization in 2022.
Gordon, who will earn her Associate’s Degree from Broward College this coming academic year, plans to transfer to the University of Central Florida.
“I’m so very grateful, very thankful,” Gordon said in a video posted by the police department. “I just want to…keep trying to accomplish more things, keep pushing it.”
“I’m going to study criminal justice, either become a CSI, something in forensic science, lab technician, something like that.”
Her father, Fred Gordon, called the scholarship money “a tremendous help.”
“This is going a long way to help Michelle with that effort [to pay for tuition and books],” he said. “It’s very much appreciated.”
