Police are looking for a burglar who stole cash from the iconic Lester’s Diner location in Margate.

The restaurant, located at 4701 Coconut Creek Parkway, was targeted around 12:15 a.m. on June 25 by an unidentified culprit who smashed open a window on the southeast side of the business, according to a crime summary from the Margate Police Department.

The burglar “went directly to the office where [they] used a crowbar to pry open the door and a locked cabinet,” stealing “an undetermined amount of cash,” the summary states.

The crime was captured on security cameras, police said.

No arrests had been announced as of Wednesday.

Lester’s opened in Margate in 1993, joining the chain’s original location in Fort Lauderdale. Lester’s has since opened additional diners in Pompano Beach and Sunrise.

Originally known for its 14-ounce cups of coffee and all-night service, the Margate location now offers regular-size cups of java and is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Anyone with information about the burglary can call Margate Police at 954-972-7111.
